Thriller wraps up filming in N.B.

American Sunset shot in Moncton, Fredericton, Parlee Beach

A second major movie to be filmed in Moncton in as many years is wrapping up production downtown.

The film, American Sunset, is scheduled for release this summer. The popular teen movie Growing Op, released last year, was also filmed in Moncton.

The film is produced by Global Universal Inc. out of Hollywood, but most of the 40-person cast and crew is from New Brunswick.

“It’s been really great for me,” said Nicky Destres, production manager and Moncton native. “It’s been giving me the opportunity to prove myself in the New Brunswick market.”

This is Destres’ first time as a production manager for a feature film.

“New Brunswick film is underrated, but I’m hoping this film will change things,” Destres said.

‘Lost Boy’ in capital

Corey Haim | Actor joins Frank Molina in new movie

One of the biggest movie stars from the 1980s is filming a motion picture in the capital region this week.

Corey Haim, who starred in Hollywood blockbusters such as Licence To Drive, The Lost Boys, and Stephen King’s Silver Bullet, filmed a scene at the popular Mexican eatery El Burrito Loco several days ago and will visit several other locations as work continues on the film.

The Toronto-born actor fell out of the spotlight in the 1990s and struggled briefly with addiction and financial troubles.

But Haim returned to the industry again in recent years by appearing in a reality television show The Two Coreys alongside good friend and fellow teen heartthrob Corey Feldman.

He also has a role in the Hollywood action movie Crank: High Voltage.

Global Universal Pictures, Inc. is making the film, which is tentatively titled American Sunset, with Haim, co-star Frank Molina and director Michael Masucci.
